This week Exmouth District High School received a 3D printer generously donated by the ‘Ningaloo Outlook’– a five-year strategic marine research partnership between CSIRO and BHP. CSIRO’s Damian Thompson has been visiting students in the Primary school STEM-Lab for the last three years, sharing his research on ocean debris in the Ningaloo area - one of the focus area for the Ningaloo Outlook Shallow Reef program. The donated 3D printer will be used in the specialist science program and also integrated across the Primary school learning programs. The printer has already been a massive hit with students and teachers with many creative ideas to support learning programs. It has already been used to print out new resources such as 3D bikes to assist students in the design process, to model of the Great Pyramid of Giza showing how the inner workings of the tombs in a model . 3D printing is a real game changer not only for the production industry, but also in education. It is great for students to have exposure to this technology from an early age. We are encouraging students to innovate and problem solve to make the most of these amazing resources we now have at our fingertips. |
